We are looking for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will bring strategic, entrepreneurial, and visionary leadership to our operations and support our mission of providing outstanding educational resources to the next generation. As a critical member of the executive board, the CFO will provide sound fiscal strategy, analysis, management, and planning support to diverse teams within our organization. They will provide thoughtful and forward-looking advice in leadership discussions, helping the company to build on a solid financial foundation and leverage its position as a leader in education technology. Our ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the education sector and trends in education, as well as a proven track record of success as a finance administrator in mission-driven organizations.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead financial strategy, analysis, risk management, and planning 
  • Create budgets that reflect organization priorities
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development opportunities to team members
  • Develop and recommend financial strategies and policies
  • Partner with other leaders on planning, positioning, forging community partnerships, and advancing our presence in the region
  • Develop prospects by studying economic trends and revenue opportunities
  • Manage the organization’s finances, including the development of optimal debt strategies
  • Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results and initiating corrective actions as necessary
  • Assist in the development of investment strategies for cash and short-term investments
  • Optimize the deployment of resources to support strategic planning priorities and preserve long-term financial health
  • Serve as a liaison for external auditors and other accrediting or compliance organizations
  • Support development efforts by engaging with current and prospective donors 
  • Present and communicate complex financial concepts clearly to a range of stakeholders
  • Create and maintain dashboards and reports to inform key stakeholders of financial opportunities and challenges

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in accounting or financial management
  • Experience managing business operations, including payroll
  • Experience as a strategic thought partner and people manager
  • Experience in a senior management position 
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of general accounting, budgeting and planning, and analysis and reporting best practices
  • Knowledge of non-profit accounting, including contract and grant accounting and revenue recognition issues
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Excellent analytical and strategic planning skills
  • Strong GAAP and financial reporting skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business administration, finance, or accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant certification
