We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to provide leadership related to data and information systems within our organization. The CTO will be responsible for developing and leading our education technology initiatives. In addition to overseeing all aspects of technology within our organization, they will lead and manage a staff including managers as well as individual contributors on the information and education technology teams. Our ideal candidate will be forward-thinking, adept at strategic planning, and well-versed in areas such as roadmapping, development, machine learning, DevOps, and budgeting.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the organization’s technology plan, policies, and procedures
  • Develop and oversee organizational goals related to technology 
  • Manage and coordinate technology strategy development and integration 
  • Oversee the collection, storage, management, quality, and protection of data and information
  • Provide leadership and direction to the technology department 
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams in the implementation and management of data structures and edtech systems
  • Assess current systems to identify technology needs and areas for improvement 
  • Develop operating, information, and edtech strategies, plans, and procedures
  • Administer and supervise technology support services
  • Supervise personnel responsible for planning, acquiring, and implementing new hardware, software, and services
  • Ensure the physical and logistical security of equipment and data
  • Educate organization members on their role in IT security and the secure use of systems and technology
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of technology team members
  • Identify staff training needs and oversee technology training across the organization
  • Manage organizational and project budgets related to technology
  • Communicate the organization’s vision and action plans to technology teams
  • Facilitate communication between the technology team and other internal and external entities in a timely, accurate manner
  • Stay up-to-date on developments in information technology and education technology

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

  • 8+ years of professional experience in a technology role
  • 5+ years of experience in a technology leadership role
  • Experience in information or data systems management, preferable with edtech platforms
  • Experience managing full lifecycle projects 
  • Experience with long-range and short-range technology planning
  • Experience preparing, implementing, and supervising budgets
  • Experience gathering and analyzing data
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations related to education technology
  • Knowledge of current IT security expectations and best practices
  • Knowledge of current IT management methodologies
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies in enterprise IT environments
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a technology or business field
  • Experience as an educator or in the education sector
