Do you want to use big data to help drive the direction of products that impact customers’ lives? If so, then we encourage you to apply to be our new Director of Engineering. This critical leadership role will work closely with product managers, data scientists, software engineers, and ML engineers to build a data architecture that informs decisions and drives insights. The ideal candidate will have strong data infrastructure and data architecture skills, a proven track record of leading and scaling large data teams, and a strong vision for how data engineering can proactively improve our company. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively formulate and implement the vision for data and analytics to support the infrastructure and its goals
  • Drive technical and process innovation to increase the maturity and capability of infrastructure data practices
  • Establish processes to achieve operational excellence in data fidelity, data privacy, and system reliability
  • Manage and grow a high-quality data engineering team
  • Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, product managers, researchers, and other groups to understand and meet their data needs
  • Drive the design, development, and launch of new data models and data pipelines
  • Define and manage SLAs for all data sets and processes running in production
  • Manage the delivery of high-impact dashboards, data sets, and data visualizations
  • Streamline data processes and optimize data quality 
  • Ensure timely resolution of issues impacting data foundations and downstream data products
  • Establish key performance indicators and metrics to monitor the effectiveness of data quality and operational processes
  • Analyze performance data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for optimization 
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and emerging technologies 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

  • 12+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, data architecture, data operations, and/or data warehousing
  • Experience managing operational teams and leading in a cross-functional environment
  • Experience building a data platform using cloud technologies such as Snowflake, Montecarlo, BigEye, Atlan, or AWS
  • Experience developing in at least one object-oriented language such as Python or Java
  • Experience with SQL or similar languages
  • Experience building a data quality and ops platform, including real-time data anomaly detection and data profiling
  • Experience with real-time data ingestion, data lake storage, data security, and data access
  • Experience in incident management or data quality management
  • Knowledge of big data technologies such as Kafka, Airflow, or Data Dog
  • Knowledge of A/B testing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI and the ML lifecycle
  • Experience working on large scale infrastructure
  • Experience with automating data auditing
  • Experience with large volume data sets and data visualization tools
